West Bengal’s Electrical Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution is the best in India and the State has a power surplus of about 170 MW. Several projects in the pipeline will sustain and improve the surplus. The plans include a new 1000 MW plant at Maithon and the 2000 MW plant at Sagardighi. Two more 210 MW units are being installed at Bakreshwar and Rs 600 Crores has been allocated for the renovation of the plants at Bandel and Kolaghat that serve Kolkata. The availability and quality of low-cost power in the IT enclaves is the best in the country.
